Stainless Steel Pools & Spas vs. Gunite

Why Stainless Steel?

Compared to concrete or Gunite, stainless steel has lower annual maintenance costs due to the longevity of finish. The use of stainless steel would alleviate the issues regarding the deterioration that commonly occurs with concrete, mortar or plaster due to the epoxy adhesive and grout. As an added benefit, there is a reduction in chemical use for sanitation purposes and eliminates the need for re-plastering and acid wash.

Stainless steel boasts reduced strength to weight ratios for above grade installations.

Ex: 10" thickness for pool floor and 8" thickness for sides

Concrete: 250 lbs. /sq. ft.
Stainless Steel: 23 - 27 lbs. /sq. ft.

Result: 9.2 - 10.8 weight ratio differential*

Logistic and Engineering Benefits of Stainless Steel

Stainless steel pool installation promotes a cleaner job site. The use of stainless steel eliminates the typical debris associated with concrete. There will be no concrete components and plasters strewn blown all over the job site. In effect, the surrounding area is accessible for work during the installation of stainless steel pools.

Stainless steel pools are fully designed with CAD engineering. This ensures the ease of installation and code approvals. This method reduces the chance of variation and inconsistencies usually found with free forming shotcrete.

Concrete pools are likely to have leaks, cracks, de-lamination or re-plaster needs in the future. Consider the area for future repairs. Will craning in materials for repair be feasible? Is there an area for equipment to be placed? These issues can be eradicated with stainless steel.

Stainless Steel Offers Unparalleled Longevity and Durability

There is no comparison in warranty when using stainless steel. Stainless steel warranty is 25 years matched up to to the 1 year warranty on concrete pools. The tile adhesion warranty is 5 years surpassing the 1 year warranty offered with concrete pools. Choosing stainless steel is a clear choice when taking into account durability and even more obvious when considering its overall design, beauty and finish.

Commonly Asked Questions

Q.

Can any type of pool develop a leak?

A.

Typical Gunite or shotcrete pools can develop leaks but stainless steel pools do not leak. In some rare cases, minimal condensation at the vessel exterior can occur.

Q.

Can you tell that it is a stainless steel pool?

A.

No, you cannot tell the difference, stainless steel and concrete pools look identical.

Q.

Is there a chance of rusting with stainless steel pools?

A.

Not typically. This will only occur if the pool is not professionally installed or if the wrong materials were used.

Q.

Are stainless steel pools more expensive than traditional concrete pools?

A.

No. When you take into account all of the benefits including lower labor costs, better logistics, little to no maintenance costs and an outstanding warranty, stainless steel becomes a more economical choice over the life of the project.
